This workshop with Heather Goulette-Gamage is designed as an introduction to Qigong–working with your vital energy, or Qi, using movement, breath work, visualization, and meditation. Qigong is similar to yoga but is based on Qi movement with slow movements, breath, and visualization. Some basic aspects of Chinese medicine theory will be shared as well to create a better understanding of how we can use Qigong to heal ourselves and come to a place of harmony with the cycles of nature and the world around us.
What is Qi? You may have also heard or seen the word spelled Ki, or Chi, or if you have been studying yoga, you may know the word Prana. So, what is this elusive essence? In its broadest sense, you can call it universal energy. Qi embraces all manifestations of energy, from the densest, such as the earth beneath your feet, and all other physical representations of life on this planet; to the most subtle; light, movement, heat, nerve impulses, thought, and emotion. Qi is present in all living things, and also, in everything else! It is the force that makes up and binds together all things in the universe. The word “gong” simply means work. Qigong=qi work.
The Chinese have studied this for thousands of years, creating a complex system of working with this energy within us, and also supporting how we interface with the world around us. Acupuncture, Chinese herbs, spiritual martial arts, tui na, tai chi, and qigong are all aspects that have become a part of our culture. Chinese medicine isn’t a quick fix, but instead asks us to reflect on all parts of our being; mind, body, and spirit, to reestablish balance and harmony in the systems.
All are welcome, this workshop is suitable for all levels and all bodies.
